I made a racist comment and feel terrible. What should I do?

Everybody jokes about that. If you're not racist then I don't find it offensive if people make race jokes like if a white person was to say "Black people love some fried chicken" if they're not racist then I'm cool with it. (I'm actually a vegetarian) streotypes aren't true you can joke it's when you're serious that's the problem.
